refugee
question
and
ongoing
forced
displacement
of
Palestinians
through
research,
advocacy
and
support

community
participation

the
search
for
durable
solutions
and
reparations.
BADIL
promotes
accountability
of
duty
holders
through
a
global
civil
society
campaign
for
boycott,
divestment
and
sanctions
(BDS)
against
Israel
until
it
abides
with
international
law.

1998;

Bethlehem,
Palestine

The
Legal
Research
&
Advocacy
Officer
is
responsible
for
planning,
implementation
and
reporting
of
designated
activities,
including
legal
research,
advocacy
and
lobbying
in
the
UN
human
rights
system
and
with
international
organizations
based
in
the
OPT,
and
coordination
of
the
BADIL
Legal
Support
Network
in
accordance
with
the
vision,
mission
and
strategy
of
BADIL.
BADIL
is
looking
for
dynamic
candidates
with
a
track
record
of
skills
and
previous
experience
in
legal
research
and
advocacy
related
to
the
Palestinian
people.
On-the
job
training
will
be
provided
in
May-June
2008
for
this
position
which
will
become
vacant
in
July.
JOB
DESCRIPTION
Key
responsibilities:
-
Conduct
research
and
write
BADIL
studies,
reports
and
submissions
to
UN-
and
other
humanitarian/human
rights
fora;
-
Write
articles
for
BADIL
information
tools
(magazines,
press
releases,
a.o.)
and
participate
in
editorial
meetings
and
quality
control;
-
Ensure
active
involvement
of
experts,
members
of
the
BADIL
Legal
Support
Network,
in
BADIL
program
implementation
and
develop
new
expert
contacts;
-
Coordinate
and
contribute
to
the
work
of
human
rights/humanitarian
working
groups
and
coalitions
in
the
OPT;
-
Implement
advocacy
and
lobby
assignments
abroad
(academic
conferences,
United
Nations);
-
Serve
as a
legal
resource
person
to
BADIL
community-based
activities;
-
Assist
with
development
of
the
BADIL
research
library;
-
Manage
the
department
program
plan
and
ensure
timely
implementation.
Required
Skills,
Qualifications
and
Experience
Formal
education:
-
M.A.
in
international
human
rights
or
humanitarian
law;
Work
experience:
-
At
least
3
years
of
experience
with
similar
work
with
local
or
international
organizations
in
the
Palestinian
context;
-
Documented
track
record
of
successful
academic
research
and
advocacy;
Sound
knowledge
of:
-
Public
international
law,
in
particular
humanitarian,
human
rights
and
refugee
law,
and
law
on
state
responsibility;
-
History
and
current
context
of
the
Palestinian/Arab
–
Zionist
conflict,
in
particular
the
Palestinian
refugee
issue;
-
Mandates,
policies
and
practice
of
national
and
international
NGOs
and
the
UN
system;
-
Program
management
and
planning;
-
Excellent
writing
and
editing
skills
in
English
(additional
working
knowledge
in
Arabic
preferred),
as
well
as
in
computer-based
research;
In
addition:
-
Sound
understanding
and
commitment
to a
rights-based
approach;
-
Flexibility,
team
work
skills,
ability
to
work
under
pressure;
ability
to
travel
abroad;

Readiness,
in
principle,
for
a
long-term
commitment

work
with
BADIL.
