The Alternative Information Center (AIC) announces its third International Political Field Seminar, Bridges Instead of Walls!, to be held 29 December 2009-8 January 2010. With the success of the previous seminars this past April and July, the AIC looks forward to welcoming a third group of international participants to introduce them to the socio-political realities of the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT) and Israel.
The bridges built both among the participants and between the group and local organizations are the first step in creating a group of people committed to raising awareness of the situation in the OPT and Israel. It is now time to take action and bring 30 more participants to see with their own eyes the implications of the Israeli occupation and the Palestinian-Israeli-international struggle for freedom and peace.
The AIC Seminar, which will be based in the West Bank town of Beit Sahour, is an intense and unique opportunity for international participants to gain a deeper understanding of all aspects of life in this area. Participants will experience the various struggles and contradictions of this land, and meet activists, politicians, and intellectuals who are experts in their respective fields.
The ten day intensive program includes visits to refugee camps, discussions and lectures on the economic, social, and political aspects of the Israeli occupation, and meetings with organizations based in towns all over the area, including Ramallah, Jaffa, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
Seminar participants will meet both Palestinian and Israeli personalities, as the AIC identifies and amplifies the voices striving for peace and justice in the region. Palestinian grassroots activists and social organizations will be highlighted, together with Israeli dissidents who will delineate the framework in which they act. As a joint Palestinian-Israeli struggle, the AIC emphasizes joint struggle and common efforts.
By taking part in these activities, participants will learn about many of the critical issues that perpetuate conflict in this land, inhibit peace, and about how they can play a key role in international advocacy campaigns.
The cost of the camp is EUR 500. This includes all meals, accommodation, transportation within the region, visits to various organizations and lectures. The airfare to Israel, transportation from/to the airport to Beit Sahour and health insurance are not included.
