The Global Palestinian Refugee Network and BADIL launch the

2017 AL-AWDA AWARD
“Dignity, Justice and Sustainable Peace are only possible with the Implementation of Resolution 194”

 
Under the theme “Dignity, Justice and Sustainable Peace are only possible with the Implementation of Resolution 194”, the Global Palestinian Refugee Network (GPRN) and BADIL announce the launch the 2017 Al-Awda Award for the 2017 Best Poster. 

Al-Awda Award constitutes our efforts to engage Palestinian civil society and provide them with a forum to express themselves through artistic means. This year’s theme communicates that true and just peace can only be achieved through adherence and respect for international law and the enjoyment of rights. The award is launched internationally to target youth and artists regardless of their geographic location.

The Best Poster category has traditionally been the most visible category of the annual award and is utilized in all Nakba commemoration activities by local, national and international partners.

General Rules and Regulations:

  • The following provisions and clarifications apply to all categories. Please also refer to the specific rules and regulations to each category.
  • Participants must adhere to the rules and regulations for the category in which they wish to participate.
  • Participation is open to Palestinians and internationals alike.
  • Submissions must be original and previously unpublished.
  • Any entry containing discriminatory symbols or expressions based on race, gender or religion or any other will be excluded from the competition.
  • Participants can only submit one entry in each category, but may participate in more than one category.
  • BADIL will publish the winning entries, either as separate publications or within BADIL's regular publications, as specified for each category.
  • Al-Awda Award is judged by an independent and professional jury. BADIL and the participants are obliged to accept the decision and recommendations of the jury.
  • BADIL reserves the right to keep, use, edit and publish all submissions at its discretion, while respecting the intellectual property rights of the participants.
  • Entries submitted after the deadline will be excluded, even if sent by mail.
  • All submissions should include a Curriculum Vitae and contact information.
  • Submissions can be delivered in one of the following ways:

    • Posted to BADIL: BADIL Resource Center, PO Box 728, Bethlehem, Palestine

A confirmation of receipt of the poster submission will be sent by BADIL.



The Category for Best Nakba Commemoration Poster
The best Nakba commemoration poster for this year needs to encompass the theme of the award; the poster should attempt to artistically portray that only through the implementation of Palestinian inalienable rights as dictated by international law can bring about real and sustainable peace. It could also highlight that return is much more than just compensation for property loss or damages but physical return, property restitution and satisfaction.

Deadline for submission of the poster: Friday, 21 April 2017
 
Specific Rules and Regulations:

  • The General Rules and Regulations are integral to the Specific Rules and Regulations.
  • If there is any written text on the poster it must be in Arabic.
  • The poster must be original and previously unpublished, with a clear and original message;
  • Posters submitted in previous Al-Awda Award contests will not be accepted.
  • Submissions will not be returned to the artists.
  • The poster can be hand drawn or graphically designed, and can be in color or black and white.
  • All submissions should include: a Curriculum Vitae and contact information.
  • Use CMYK color printing settings for graphically designed posters.
  • Posters must be on A3 canvas (300mm X 420mm) in high resolution (250 - 300 DPI) and saved as (.psd), (.jpg) or (.gif) file.
  • Posters can be delivered in one of the following ways:

    • Posted to BADIL: BADIL Resource Center, PO Box 728, Bethlehem, Palestine

A confirmation of receipt of the poster submission will be sent by BADIL.

Award Placements and Amounts:

  • First Place: 1500 USD
  • Second Place: 750 USD
  • Third Place: 500 USD
