BADIL and the GPRN applaud the PCUSA for their Principled and Just Resolution on Israeli Apartheid

BADIL Resource Center for Palestinian Residency and Refugee Rights and the Global Palestinian Refugee Network (GPRN) expresses its gratitude and appreciation to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of the United States of America (PCUSA) for adopting a resolution that recognizes Israel as an apartheid state.

The resolution, titled “On Recognition That Israel’s Laws, Policies, and Practices Constitute Apartheid Against the Palestinian People,” outlines how Israel meets the international definition of apartheid by means of: developing two distinct sets of law split along racial lines that benefit Israeli-Jews while oppressing the Palestinian people; confiscating Palestinian land and denying Palestinian access to natural resources, particularly water, in order to exclusively service Jewish-only colonies; denying Palestinians their right to nationality and freedom of residence; and segregating Israeli-Jews and Palestinians through creating separates ‘reserves’ for Palestinians. The resolution further advocates for members, congregations, and national staff units to seek effective methods to end Israeli apartheid.

PCUSA has now joined other international organizations, committees, and organization that recognize that Israel is indeed an apartheid regime.

BADIL and the GPRN encourage PCUSA to follow through on the recommendations made in the resolution and assist in bringing Israeli apartheid to an end. Additionally, BADIL and the GPRN call on other churches and denominations to adopt this just and principled benchmark put forth by PCUSA.
